Period during 17th century, when India was ruled by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, all the Hindu community was humiliated and were forced to accept Islam or face death. Kashmiri Brahmins approached Ninth Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji for a solution. Guru Ji sent them back with a message to Aurangzeb with stated that if he succeeded in converting Guru Tegh Bahadur into Islam, he would ensure that all the Hindus would accept Islam. Aurangzeb happily agreed to that and he failed to convert them to Islam.

Finally Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib sacrificed his life in Chandni Chowk Delhi for the protection of Hindu Religion. This is the reason he still remembered as “Hind Ki Chaadar” (shield/protector of Hindustan). Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb forbidden anyone removing the body of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. The people for whose sake He sacrificed his life, did not have the courage to come forward to his body, fearing that they too would be assassinated. Seeing this incident, Tenth Guru, Gobind Singh Ji son of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji made a resolution that he would convert his followers to such human beings who would not hide themselves and be easily identified.

After the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji then Tenth Guru and the son of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh Ji founded Khalsa Panth (Pure One). The Sikhs were very few in numbers as they were fighting with Mughal Emperors.
