During 1738 – 1739 Mughal Emperor Nadir Shah raided Delhi and looted India and was carrying 70 crores in cash, Gold and Diamond Treasures including Kohinoor Diamond and nearly 18000 Indian women along with him. This news spread like a fire and heard by Sardar Jassa Singh who was the Commander of Sikh Army at that time. He dedicated to attack Emperor Nadir Shah’s khalifa and did Guerrilla wars on the same mid night 12’O Clock and rescued all the Indian women and they were safely sent to their homes respectively.
It did not happen only once but there after whenever any Abdalis had attacked and looted India and were trying to carry the treasure and Indian women along with them, the Sikh Army(although fewer in numbers) attacked them at midnight 12’O Clock and recused all Indian women. After that time when there was a need, people start to contact the Sikh Army for their help and the Sikhs used to attack the raiders at mid night, 12’O Clock.
Proud of Sikh Saviours
Due to ignorance of Sikh History few narrow minded naughty people used to make fun of Sardars/Sikhs “baarah baje” 12’O Clock mean to Sardars as a joke forgetting proud courage and sacrifices of the Sikh Saviours. But the Sikhs should not feel ashamed or angry. They should feel Proud and Motivated when people make fun of them “baarah baje” etc. Because when no other could understand to save the pride of nation it was their Ancestor who saved them from Mughal Emperors.
Thus “baarah baje” 12’O Clock associated with Sikhs is not as joke but Proud Saviours.
Historical Background
Period during 17th century, when India was ruled by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, all the Hindu community was humiliated and were forced to accept Islam or face death. Kashmiri Brahmins approached Ninth Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji for a solution. Guru Ji sent them back with a message to Aurangzeb with stated that if he succeeded in converting Guru Tegh Bahadur into Islam, he would ensure that all the Hindus would accept Islam. Aurangzeb happily agreed to that and he failed to convert them to Islam.

Guru Tegh Bahadur was arrested along with his three followers named Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Sati Das, Bhai Dayal Das. The three followers were tortured to death in front of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib as they refused to convert to Islam.
Guru Tegh Bahadur was arrested along with his three followers named Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Sati Das, Bhai Dayal Das. The three followers were tortured to death in front of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib as they refused to convert to Islam.
Finally Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib sacrificed his life in Chandni Chowk Delhi for the protection of Hindu Religion. This is the reason he still remembered as “Hind Ki Chaadar” (shield/protector of Hindustan). Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb forbidden anyone removing the body of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. The people for whose sake He sacrificed his life, did not have the courage to come forward to his body, fearing that they too would be assassinated. Seeing this incident, Tenth Guru, Gobind Singh Ji son of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji made a resolution that he would convert his followers to such human beings who would not hide themselves and be easily identified.
After the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji then Tenth Guru and the son of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh Ji founded Khalsa Panth (Pure One). The Sikhs were very few in numbers as they were fighting with Mughal Emperors.
